Martha, what a lovely idea – buying meals for those in uniform. I have also seen flyers give their preferred seats to those in uniform, and have seen whole planes full of people stand to honor soldiers. It warms my heart and I think ripples out into the world.

Laura, thank you for taking the time to list innovative ways we can help others. I feel a kinship with you because of the loss of our husbands after serious illnesses, and I read your blog to learn your ways of moving on. When I see uniformed diners (military, police, etc.) in a restaurant, I pay their check in honor of my husband, who always did this. Your nature walks with your dogs make me appreciate my companion (17-lb cat Bigboy) even more and I give him a bit of extra attention. Our locations are different (I’m 60 miles from the Gulf Coast of Mississippi) and rarely see snow, but our paths are similar, and we are aware of our blessings!

ah Linda, I miss the ocean – lived within 60 miles of the Atlantic until moving to the West in 1974. These days the most quiet tranquil experience for me are the mountains my river walks and anyplace there is a full horizon – the sense of space is soothing.
We did go up to the treehouse Friday, got there at dark, turned around and came home early Saturday, not enough time but the weather gave warning.
As Debi says: “next year”.

Laura, this tranquility of the mountains is so rewarding to the soul. The ocean does this for me, but I’d bet the mountains might be a good alternative! Thanks.

J: until about 3 months ago, my office and studio NEVER occupied the same space. It seemed too distracting to me. Now they are separate again although the “office” remains a storage area and the computer etc are in the main living area. I’m working on it. SOON, soon I say, all will be workable again with zones for each activity and the studio back in service.!!!

I smiled when you said you’ll move the computer out of the studio. I did the same thing and it helped. When I’m near the computer , I am often tempted but mostly I’m not near and it’s easier. Have a productive time in the studio, it should feel good to be in there working, even if it’s preparing the space. That’s an great –and necessary–beginning!

hi Linda, that vine is a challenge. It comes into its own this time of year but is so exuberant. Michael used to call it “mile a minute” and hated that he had to duck through the gate. I’m working on teaching it manners. Hope all is well with you!
