something to blog about!
Over much of the past year my energy has gone to projects here at the house or in the mountains. Now, you probably don’t need to hear about the trimming of trees or the gooping of the studio roof but the solution to the bad chimney, now that’s worth sharing, even though all is in disarray and it is obviously not a completed project.
First there was the dismantling of the chimney and fireplace. There were no ugly surprises. We were pleasantly surprised at the construction of this old cottage.

This left me with a pile of bricks, nice, clean and in good shape. They’ll be used to enhance and improve the garden paths.
Then there was the removal of wall, of a small side window and the insertion of extra structural support. Removing lath and plaster is a messy process. Dust everywhere, but a hole in the wall for the door.
And the French Door is in! (I found it at the local ReStore for a wonderful price). Today will be for trimwork, floor work, steps and cleaning cleaning cleaning. Despite the plastic barriers, everything is dust coated. I get to redesign the SE corner of my side gardens to provide the privacy lost, but oh, the light in the room is wonderful and the space will be so nice to use.

My but you have been busy. The light will sure change how you see your work and how you spend your time in this space. Looks great.
Laura: how wonderful! You will use the light all year round…and the fireplace only sometimes! Patrice
The fireplace was never functional although the mantel was lovely. The door and the light will be especially nice in Winter!
It’s already making a difference – but the mess is an issue.
!!!!!! Such a big step forward! Glad the weather turned into working weather, and the guys were able to be there.
How wonderful for you–such a bright space! I have a pile of bricks too–what are you doing with yours?
Beautiful! Love how it opens up the room. You are going to enjoy that change
the bricks will go into making new garden pathways or augmenting the existing stone paths. It’s lucky, they are clean and wonderful. In the front garden there are bricked areas so it will all make sense, somehow. My tastes are, rather, eclectic.
once all is more or less “finished”, we’ll have an “amazon” party/lunch/tea here. Will you come?
I’ll be happy to come!
that totally transformed the corner. What great light.
I am happy fior you – yes, it is a mess but the finish is worth it.
