more for ONE

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Instead of responding to all your comments, I’ll post. Thanks for stopping in! thank you for the wonderful response to the collages! The “maps” are from a book of nautical references and star charts, copied onto card stock or lutradur, then used in the collages. The paper in the book is wonderful. perhaps I’ ll start using it soon, meanwhile I am still squeamish about altering a book. Silly but true.

here’s another of my collages for ONE:

**It is a Monday, the first of the New Year and it will be a busy day. All sorts of mundane tasks, but also work for the Sketchbook Project, new large work on the wall, and more…

paper

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

There’s too much of it! I love paper, don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing like good rag paper, the feel of a mark inscribing a surface, the response of surface to implement. But that’s the wonderful feedback loop of writing and drawing and painting.

Beautifully printed books, with wonderful pages and nice bindings and excellent layout design, are a sheer pleasure. It’s difficult to justify buying a book with poorly cut pages or one that is printed on cheapo pulp paper. Where’s the joy in handling that sort of object?
The “too much paper” I am commenting on today has to do with my office and files and recycle bins.

They overflow.

It is time to be ruthless. Earlier in the year a lot of my old notebooks were disposed of. Earlier this month I cleared out reams of misprints, old class handouts, first drafts and more. Multitudes of books have found their way into  the re-home loop. There is still too much stuff cluttering my small spaces. My choice: either work on this today or spend the rest of the day in studio finishing my collages for “ONE”.

The last of my printed workbooks have sold. Both are now available only as e-books. This is great! Automatic and fast delivery to you, less opportunity for more paper clutter on this end <G>. (see my shop page for details)

In other news, I am participating in the Sketchbook Challenge. It officially begins January 1 but the blog is up and running. Join in the fun!

and now – off to walk with Beau? or work on the collages? or clear a shelf of paper debris? Maybe a little of each.
